Иегуди Менухин учился у Джордже Энеску в Париже и Бухаресте.
В интервью рассказывает о своих впечатлениях (1927 года, ему было 11 лет) о лэутарской музыке:


And then Enescu told my father and me that he would take us to hear a real gypsy, and one evening we drove out to a... it wasn't even a restaurant, it was a very small little wooden building with a balcony... with a baluster, you walked up the steps and there you could sit and drink a beer or something, and this was a wonderful gypsy. I will never forget my amazement at the way he played the violin, and the way he made the violin talk, and sing and become an instrument of nature and imitate the birds, and all the feelings of nostalgia and all the feelings of sadness, and infinite aspirations, dreams, it was extraordinary, I will never get over it.
